Vandal damages totem pole outside Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

The 55-foot structure honours the Ethnic children who were forced to endure the horrors of Canada's residential schoolhouse system.

A totem pole that stands outside the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts was vandalized concluding week.

At some point between the night of Sept. 19-xx, someone cut a pocket-size clamper of the 55-pes statue and now the museum is calling on anyone with data about the incident to come forward.

The pine structure, carved by Charles Joseph, honours the Indigenous children who were forced to endure the horrors of Canada's residential school system.

Joseph is a survivor of St. Michael's Indian Residential School in British Columbia, which he refers to as "similar Alcatraz, but for kids."

Joseph was on hand in 2017 when the piece was unveiled during a ceremony presided over by then-Mayor Denis Coderre.
